Living In “Interesting Times”

We are all living in “interesting times” right now. COVID-19 has changed everyone’s daily life and any plans that have been made are pretty fluid right now for everyone. That includes the Gearheads.

On Thursday around noon, the team and the rest of the FIRST Robotics community received the word that the 2020 Infinite Recharge season had been “suspended”. This is for all competitions, including the one that we were registered to compete in on March 25-28. We are very disappointed but understand that it was the wise move to make.

In light of that information, and uncertain of when we would be able to meet again, we decided that our meeting Thursday night should be devoted to cleaning up our room. When we moved in last year, we didn’t have an overabundance of time to organize things so this is probably the neatest that our room had ever been. Our space is still a bit crowded, but at least there is a bit of free floor space now.

Our storage area. It actually has some free floor space!

A couple of days before the announcement came down, we decided to do some more painting on our rails, and the arms of our climber. We have the climber mechanism assembled with only the hooks to be added. We would have done that on Thursday, but plans change… We hope to have the opportunity to compete in off-season events if things ease up enough to allow this at some point in the future. We will let you know more as soon as we do.

The robot with the painted arms. If you look close you can see Corey holding up a hook on the left arm.

Since we don’t have the opportunity to display our Platinum and Titanium sponsors names on our listing in the event brochures, robot, and pit display we would like to formally thank them here. Our Platinum Sponsors are: Boston Scientific, Grede Foundries, Pellco Machine, Inc., Theisen Design and Manufacturing, and Central McGowan. Our Titanium Sponsors are: Park Industries, Alexandria Industries, Central Minnesota Manufacturers Association (CMMA), King Solutions, Limelight, Ken Bellicot State Farm, Ron’s Supper Club, and CWMF Corp. We could not have done it without you and our other sponsors!
