Alan is our CFO (Chief Financial Officer) and occasionally helps with build when an extra pair of hands is needed.  Here is what Alan has to say about himself.IMG_1739

Hi! My name is Alan Block.  I work for Heartland Glass Co., Inc. in Waite Park as their controller.  I am a detail oriented person that constantly has deadlines to work with.  I bring to the team my experience in record keeping and organization.  I had been wanting to get more involved with Granite City Gear Heads for years and between work and health I was finally able to mentor last year.

I got involved on the team because of my children.  So far, 4 of my five children have been, or currently are, on the team.  I have helped with transportation needs off and on since 2014.  I got hooked at the regional competition!  I was surprised to see all the different robots and how the teams worked with other teams to improve their robots.  I am amazed at the ideas the kids came up for the robot design last year and how they worked together to improve on these ideas.  Working with the teams has taught me to have fun with meeting deadlines.

My son, Nathan, was reluctant to join the team his freshman year and now he is sad that he has graduated.  He is hoping to join as a mentor on the team if school and work allows.  My oldest daughter, Ashley, joined her senior year and wished she would have joined earlier.  My middle son, Brandon, is going on the 3rd year on the team.  He was very bummed last year when he had to miss the regional competition to go on his orchestra trip to Chicago.  My youngest daughter, Carrie, just joined the team and is having a blast.  She is working on getting her friends to come and check out our team.  My youngest son, Aaron, is already talking about when he joins the team in a year or 2.
